Here’s me reading my short story, “The Stonechat”, written to commission during my time as Writer in Residency at Alton Towers with Liminal Residency.

This project was funded by the Arts Council.

Video hosted by Comma Press. The Alton Towers publication is available on the Liminal Residency website.

“Blimey, I don’t half recognise the houses, the habits and the culture that The Guest so perfectly describes; the muck, the dirt and the mess ingrained in the sticky carpets and in the tangled relationships of the punk rock 1980s. And it’s that reflection between chaotic lifestyles and chaotic relationships that this book gets so right – the smell that’s one part stale beer, one part vegan stew and one part emotional turmoil…” – Boff Whalley, Chumbawamba

”A tightly honed work of dirty realism with convincing characters and richly developed settings, Guest is an entertaining and life-affirming work with important things to say about protest, resilience and the idea that “successful” living depends on an ability to share in the lives of others.” Andy Hedgecock, Morning Star

My novel, Guest, is out now, available from Dead Ink Books

One of Waterstone’s “Best of 2019” books

30 Books for Autumn in iNews

“This new collection of fictions and essays, spanning two millennia of British protest, authors, historians and activists re-imagine twenty acts of defiance: campaigns to change unjust laws, protests against unlawful acts, uprisings successful and unsuccessful – from Boudica to Blair Peach, from the Battle of Cable Street to the tragedy of Grenfell Tower. Britain might not be famous for its revolutionary spirit, but its people know when to draw the line, and say very clearly, ‘¡No pasarán!’

Resist! Stories of Uprising features my story Black Showers, and is available now from Comma Press.
